Hi.
Ole Johnsen´s occupation in Drammen 1860 when Peter Luvig was christened was Carpenter, see #33 here
Ole Johnsen, Tømmmnd (Tømmermand) Carpenter, place of living was Engene (Sidsel Pedersdr Engene).

Engene is east of the river Drammenselva in the middle of the city here

The godparents, see 1. section right side;
K (Kone-Wife) Elen M Olsdr, P (Pige-Maid) Ottilie Nielsdr, Aron Nielsen, Hans Nielsen, Torger Johannesen

Can´t find the family in the 1865 census.

So, this is extremely random, but we're related, distantly. I'm Gary Sjol's son. I grew up visiting Gilbert and Alice Sjol's farm. Their oldest son, Gene, was my grandfather.

I've been looking up genealogy for the Sjol family and other branches of my family tree for the past five or so years and between my father and I we had found ancestry going back hundreds of years on every side of our family, except where Peter and Christina Sjol were concerned.

My father doesn't remember much that Gene or Gilbert may have told him about the family history. He was under the impression that Peter came over much earlier than he did (17 or 18 instead of 22) and that he was already married to Christina when he arrived in the United States. For obvious reasons, this made it near-impossible to track him down. I spent years just looking in the wrong places.

So you can imagine my excitement when I stopped focusing on Peter and started looking for Christina and stumbled across your thread on this website. The family tree I had put together had a big black hole where those two were concerned, and now it's gone!

So I wanted so say "thank you" for indirectly filling in a big gap in my search. I have been updating my online family tree over at a free site called Geni. I'd love it if you'd consider adding to it. You can view what we have currently right here- http://www.geni.com/share?t=6000000016715963970

If you're interested, I can send you an invite to become a contributor.

Are you Anna Rud's granddaughter? Or am I getting that all wrong? Unfortunately, I was very young the last time I really met anyone in person on that side of the family. I'm 32 now. Gilbert Sjol died on my 6th birthday, and I was a pall bearer at Alice's funeral when I was 16. That's really the last time I remember meeting any extended relatives. Being a funeral, I really don't remember much of it.

Today, I live in Portland, Oregon. I make it back home every couple years. My mother and father live outside of East Grand Forks, right next door to Gene Sjol's widow, Joanne.

In any case, I'd love to know more about you and your side of the family. Like I said, after my mid-teens, we didn't spend much time with that side of our family, so it would be nice to re-connect.

Take care.

Nate Sjol
