Hi Pamela,

I think I have found some things that might get you started.

Olaf Amundsen and Christine A Hansen were married in Portland, Maine 16 January 1904. (Maine Marriages on Ancestry.com).

1910 Census Enfield, CT (North Road) They were boarders in a house on North Rd.
Olaf Amerson Age: 26 Married 7 years born Norway
Chistina Amerson Age: 29 Married 7 yrs. born Norway
Caroline Amerson 6 yrs. born Maine

Your grandmother's and grandfather's marriage was online ( at ancestry.com) so the spelling I gave you for that is the official spelling on the marriage certificate. On the census records, the census taker often mispelled names so I soundexed it to find them in Enfield.

Death Record: Olaf Amundsen Springfield, Massachusetts (from Familysearch.org)

Olaf Amundsen born 29 Apr 1883 in Norway
died 16 Aug 1915 in Springfield, Massachusetts
age: 32
parents: Olaf Amundsen and Marn Olsen

It appears from the following record that Christine remarried. My Massachusetts vital records only go to 1911.

1920 Census Springfield, Massachusetts

Charles Grand
Christine Grand
Caroline Amundsen born Maine
Edna Amundsen born Massachusetts

Birth Record: Edna Marie Amundsen (Mass Vital Records 1910 Vol 59, pg. 199)

born in Springfield 18 Jul 1910
father: Olaf M Amundsen born Norway
mother: Christine A Hansen born Norway
Address: 281 Allen St. Springfield, MA
Occupation of father: Machinist

I don't know if you're familiar with FamilySearch.org (Mormon Church), but it's free and they are adding more information everyday. Also, you might try the Ellis Island site to see if either of them came in through there. It's also free. I have subscriptions with Ancestry.com and AmericanAncestors.org so some of this info I got on those sites.

The vital records woman, refers to my great grandfather Olaf, and great grandmother Christine, as my grandparents - but they are the great grandparents.

It's a very short link over here in the US. My mother knows of her Aunt Edna, birth of Edna is connected to Olaf and Christine, which includes Caroline. My mother knew that her mother, Caroline, was born in Portland, ME and the date of her birth. My mother knew her grandmother remarried, though she thought the last name was Grant, but it turned out to be Grand. The only missing link is my grandmother's birth certificate. Which I guess I need to order from Maine. But everything the woman found after the marriage and Caroline's birth, links up.

Everything the researcher over here has put forth, has matched up. She was able to view the marriage certificate,

... view the marriage certificate online, Edna's birth certificate online, and Olaf's death certificate (which she passed on to me), the census tracking them and my great grandmother's second marriage. Everything links up to the same family.

Pam,
your topic has the headline;
Olaf M Amundsen- Born April 29. 1883.
Parents are Olaf Amundsen and Marn Olsen.
Olaf could well be Ole and Marn was Maren.

It correspond with Olaf M (Martin) born in Oslo April 29. 1883 to Ole Amundsen and Maren Kristiansdatter in Oslo exept for his mothers lastname.

I could not find this family in the 1885 or the 1900 census for Oslo.

Yes, it's all so tricky ... LOL ... But I agree, this matches up a little better. Can you find him leaving Norway?

With the info from the vital records woman in US I believe Kċres finding is the right Olaf Martin Amundsen, emigrating to Portland, Maine in 1902, marrying in Portland, Maine 1904. He was also a machinist in Norway as well as in US.

1902 emigration from Norway by ship Angelo to Hull, England.

The journey from Hull via Liverpool to USA by steamship is described here

Hi

The 1910 census listing also gives a migration year for Olaf Amerson as 1901 and that his papers have been filed, so there should be a declaration of intent to find probably in Maine or Connecticut.

Hilsen,
Jackie M.

Pamela,
Norway is a small country, ab. 2,2 million in 1900..
Throughout the country acc. the 1900 census there were only two Olaf Amundsen born 1883, if one adds the middle name Martin there were only one.

He emigrated 1902 to Portland, Maine.

I believe Ole Amundsen was the one born Aug 26 1820, see #57. His parents were Amund Olsen and Martha Haagensdatter.

Maren Sophie born Aug 11 1855, see #555, her parents were Christian Knudsen and Elen Sĝrensdatter, Vĉkkerĝe.

Correct Einar.

This wedding record has exactly the same date for both birth days and names of the fathers;
Amund Olsen and Kristian Knudsen, see #86

Maren was from Vĉkerĝ, Oslo, an area in Ullern

Ole lived in Lysaker
