Alright, thanks for clearing things up for me. Is there any special way you suggest that I enter for location on these guys? I am adding them as the farm name, Nore og Uvdal, Norway.

I think the Bygdbook have more info reg. this family.
Add some more info. reg the meaning of the name Traasevig:
Traasevig, Traas, local Tråss, means in this occation waste of twigs and leaves and Vik means Bay
Farm Trossevik is located to a small bay at the south-east part of lake Norefjord where twigs and leaves floating on the water were gathered.

Borge.
The name means Fort, in the past, before the viking age, it was a "Bygdeborg" Hill fort in the mountain above the farm where the local population in troubled times if enemies "visited" the area sought shelter.

Just an update, I tried emailing that guy in Krongsberg about the genealogy page he posted about Svend Iverson and Lisa Stendalan. I have not heard a reply back. I have sent him 2 emails, one in English, and one translated using google translate to Norwegian. It's been about 5 days and no reply yet.

Also, I am trying to locate the Viergjordan farm on Nore og Udval. I can find Nore og Uvdal located near Rødberg, but not the farm. Any thoughts?

If I also may ask, you mentioned before that the son left behind "Halvor" in Norway was a first birth out of wedlock. Can I get the information on the mother of "Halvor". Her name, date of birth, any census records, etc. I am going to try and trace that line as well. I also saw that Halvor Svendsen was born on April 29, 1882, Records also show that Svend Iverson emigrated on Febuary 1, 1883 showing that he basically left when the kid was less then a year old. Any reason as to why people in those days would do such a thing?

Viergjordan = Vidarsjorden, see map.

If you hit the spelling used today you can search for more places with this map.
Example:
Trossevig = Tråseviken.

Hi,
perhaps the person from Kongsberg is on vaccation.

Why Svend left a son Halvor in Norway will only be speculations. Hi named him after his twinbrother Halvor
The mother was Sigrid Olsdatter Viesjorden.
Rødberg is the population centre in Nore and Uvdal.

Kåre.

There are two stavechurches in Nore and Uvdal.

Tråseviken belonged to Nore Stavechurch

Viesjorden belonged to Uvdal Stavechurch build late in the 1100s
The Norwegian version has more photos.

Thanks for clearing that up. All of these landmarks are all within a few miles of each other. So, Now I can pretty much have an area where these ancestors are from.

Now, The Son left behind Halvor Svendsen eventually married Margit Gjermundsen and they had 3 children according to what you guys have told me, We have Gjermund Svensen b. 1906, Sigrid Svensen B. 1907 & Sigmund Svensen b. 1909.

Anything on these children?

Lucas,
genealogy can be a challenge, somtimes one hit a brickwall that must be tacled.
On page three I have made a correction on Halvor Svendsen married to Margit Gjermundsen.
This Halvor Svendsen seems to be a blind track if my research is correct (his birtday and month was also not properly, it was only the year 1882 that did)

Hi,

A Roar Hansen still lives at the street address in the original post, but the phone numbers appear to be different. These from www.1881.no:

Kontaktinformasjon for Roar Hansen
Besøksadresse
Christine Strays vei 13
3610 Kongsberg
Telefon 32 73 05 74

If the email doesn't work you could try sending a regular letter. It is as said before, July is usually vacation month in Norway...

I am confused, so the Halvor who married Margit Gjermundsen is the wrong Halvor?? If so, no problem. I still appreciate all your guys hard work.

Hi,

Interesting that there are corrections upon both Halvor Svendson's baptismal and his marriage. Right above the Henrikson, written in an apparently different hand, the word Iversen and Henriksen itself has parentheses around.

There is no other Halvor Svendson b. 29 June 1882, nor 28 June 1882 in either the Nore i Nore, nor Nore i Uvdal registers. The Halvor from earlier post's mother resided on Viergordon at his baptism. Most folks are born where their mother is at the time they were born!

Obviously something is going on with the person in the records. I wouldn't be so quick to eliminate him yet.

Hi,

Here is Halvor Svendson's confirmation, he is #2:

Source information: Buskerud county, Uvdal in Nore, Parish register (official) nr. III 4 (1885-1898), Confirmation records 1896, page 109.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=4194&idx_id=4194&uid=ny&idx_side=-88
Permanent imagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20060607150340.jpg

It looks like his father's name is Svend Iverson Gjellhammer (?)
his status is bachelor, and husman.

The best advice I can give in this case is follow Sherlock Holmes: Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable, is the truth.
