Vicky,

I finished looking at Ingeborg the sister's descendants in the Holsboka and didn't find any with a connection to a Myrhre farm.

There are two sisters of Margit about whom the books contain very little information so perhaps there is some other connections to be explored there concerning them.

By my count Ingeborg the sister had 15 grandchildren most of whom were born in the 1930s so they are most likely retired folks if still living. By the publication date of the book, 1972, Ingeborg had 18 great grandchildren. Most of these were born in the 1950s and 1960s. Perhaps some family lore concerning aunty Margit has come down the generations and been lodged with these folks. You might want to try contacting them. Let me know.

Vicky,

Per a request by Jackie, I looked at the Immigration Records on Ancestry.com for a Marie, Margit, or Maren Olsen, Olson or Olsdatter born 1862 plus or minus 2 years and arrival date of 1890 plus or minus 2 years without any luck. There are no ladies with the above names travelling with a person with a name even close to Swenby There are single ladies travelling alone with some version of the above names and arriving within that date range however there is no easy way to determing if they are the Marie you seek.

One way to deal with this issue is to find the Emmigratin Record of her leaving Norway and compare other passengers leaving with her with those arriving in America. However I have not been able to find a emmigration record that fits her.

Vicky,

In hopes of aiding anyone else in finding the emmigration record for Ole Smedby and Marie, I am posting this link to the emigration record for Inger Svendby and Johan Olson Svendby. Wife and son of Ole Svendby (Smedby)? I have not been able to locate the outgoing record for Ole Svednby (Smedby) or for Marie for that matter.

1892

Margit's sister Guri is my grandfathers mother. She settled in Christiania (Oslo), and I should think Margit when to here place when she moved to Christiania in 1890. (Guri married and had her first child in april 1891)

Here's a little about Guri:
She moved to Norderhov in 1888. I was wrong about my last coment. She moved to Oslo after all the children had grown up. (My father and my grandmother told me so much about her, so I forgot she had a life at Norderhov as long as Olaus lived.)

She married Olaus 15. May 1891 in Norderhov Church

They got five children:
Inga Karoline 1891-1957, Nils Oskar 1894-1911, Gustav Adolf 1896-1938, Olga Helene 1898-1969 and Borghild Marie 1901-1975.
All of them baptized in Norderhov Church.

I found a lot information about this family in Ancestry.com, but I also found some wrong information there about my nearest family.
I'm greatful for the information you gave me earlier in this topic. :-)

Marianne,

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm wondering if any stories have been passed down to you concerning the siblings of Guri and if you cousins in Norderhov and Oslo kept in touch with those in Hol. Do you have any pictures of the family? Vicky has a very nice picture of Margit and she was very beautiful indeed.

Thanks to you all for the efforts of trying to find emigration on Marie Olsen (Margit Olsen Larsgaardeie) which probably happened after her first child Olaf died which was April of 1891. Little Olaf's father was Anton Berhard Johannesen (born in 1860). What happened to Anton is unknown. Marie supposedly came to America to start over with Ole Swenby. The hope is that some of Margit's family in Norway might know the true story of what happened in Norway and this man Ole. I have written to several of Margit's sister, Ingeborg's, descendents in Norway with no response thus far. I appreciate all of you..

Guri married her husband, bore her children in Norderhov and little Olaf's father's residence was Norderhov...
