Jonas Olsen b. 1873, parents; Ole Tellefsen Hovland and Talette Johannesdatter
Teodor Olsen b. 1885, parents; Ole Tormundsen Vasbø and Talette Aslaksdatter.

But as I read it:
Jonas parents Ole Tellefsen and Talette Johannesdatter never emigrated, both lived on farm Bjerkrem in the 1900 and 1910 census, Jonas brother Tollef owned farm Bjerkrem but lived temporary on Vasbø in the 1900 census.

Ralph,

We can find Ole T and son Theodor Vasbo in 1900 US Census in Carbon County, Montana

We can find John Vasbo and wife Elsie and children in 1910 US Census in Teton County , Montana and what appears to be the same family in the 1930 US Census as
Jonas Vasboe and wife Else and different children in Glacier Coiunty, Montana.

Where is it that the two families intersect. What record shows that they ever interacted or lived in the same county.

The only puzzle left to solve for us is the relationship between Theodor 29 Apr 1885 and Jonas 4 Sep 1873.
most likely (I am quite convinced) there were no relationships between the two.

Jonas parents and siblings as follows:
Ole Tollefsen, Hytland 28 years, and Thalette Johannesdatter, Hovland store 25 years, were married April 19 1865.
Their children:
Malena born Dec 3 1865 at Osen in Sirdal,
Tollef born Jan 15 1868 at Osen in Sirdal,
Jonas born Aug 31 1872, bapt at home same day died same day, and
Jonas born Sept 4 1873 at Hovland in Ørsdalen (most likely the Jonas “John” Olsen Vasbo in DELANGE.R.TREE2011),
Martin born May 8 1876 at Vasbø in Bjerkreim,
Marselius born April 27 1877 at Vasbø in Bjerkreim,
Karl born April 5 1880 at Vasbø in Bjerkreim,
Theoline born Dec 9 1883 at Vasbø in Bjerkreim,
Karina born Dec 8 1886 at Vasbø in Bjerkreim.

I believe it is right that Jonas parents, Ole and Thalette did not emigrate. I seem to have the wrong Ole in Montana. Theodore's father, Ole Tormundosen, and wife, Talette Aslaksdatter, could be the ones. My confusion is that both Oles had wives named Talette. That would account for the census which lists Ole and "son" Ted at the sheep ranch in 1900. Ole Tormundsen' birth is May 1859 which agrees with the 1900 census of age 41 also. It gets clearer. More thanks are definitely in order.

I had not known that Jonas had a brother named Martin. Now I will have to track the Martin Vasboe who appears in the Montana census.

If Cascade county, Montana is where you want to look there is a collection of material, only browseable not yet searchable, at www.familysearch.org--appears to be an historical society or a genealogical society collection of materials. There are obituary abstracts for 3 of Jonas Vasbo's boys. Might be worth looking into.

At www.genealogybank.com in the historical newspapers collection filtered to Montana papers there is a matrimonial announcement for a man recorded as Ole Vasbo age 20, 26, 28, or 29 (the original print is a bit filled in the type) and Johanna Johnson. Date of the paper is 26 June 1904, Anaconda Standard "Decides to Marry the Girl" reporting an event at Great Falls. I don't think this refers to Ole T. Vasbo but Ole may be a typo for Martin Olson Vasbo?

Good Luck,

Jackie M.

Very interesting. Warm Springs is the old insane asylum for Montana. May not want to follow up on this one. My wife says, "I wonder if he made himself a widower?" A bit macabre?
