Your ancestor was in a ski unit from Trĝndelag (Trondhjemske) regiment 1808.
My ancestor Jacob Zernichow from Telemark regiment, he and his brother Peter Nicolai lost their father at age 16 and 14 and was trained to be non comissioned officers ca 1771 by their older half brother, L. Colonel Christian Diderich Z. in 2. Trondhjemske regiment.

I have read that MANY were conscripted during those war years. Kjetil Flattin wrote a book, Game Hermennar Krig 1804-1814, which might relate to the Telers who served, but haven't found any copies available on interlibrary loan. And perhaps the dialect would make translating rather difficult. I guess I had better move on from this issue! It is Memorial Day in the USA today...so there is so much talk of war/soldiers/cemeteries.
