I accepted that they had their different last names that were based on farm where they were born on. I wondered about what happened to Ingebrigt (Engle)'s brother, Peder Monsen Kvile. Was he still in Norway or emigrated to America? Yes, you are right one of Agnete Thorine died. Another sister, Agete died, too. Mons Pedersen Reed's parents Peder Thorsen Reed 1796-1829 and Agnete Arnesdatter Reed 1809-1878 and grandparents,Thor Davidsen Rheed 1792-? and Maria Pedersdatter Rheed ?-?. Thor's parents were David Thorsen Rheed and Christi Jacobsdatter Hoyloe. they were married Oct. 8, 1760. Reed were very dominant in Mons' family.
Ingebrigt (Engle)'s wife was
Marie Jacobsdatter Valaker (Valager) <-- Jacob Andersen Valager 1838-1865 and Brithe Larsdatter Solvberg 1839-1918, <-- Anders Jacobsen Valager 1810-1835 and Mari Jacobsdatter Reed 1810-1895, <-- Jacob Andersen Vallager and kari Handsdatter Rand. All were born in same farm. Correct? Valager, Vallager, Wallager

are Overseeter and Ovre Satre same?

thanks again People work for Norway Heritage are very kind and helpful. I really appreciated it.

Should be. Both translate to upper summer pasture/cabin

over/øvre: upper
seter: A summer pasture, especially one in the mountains of Scandinavia, to which a farmer takes livestock as part of transhumance.
transhumance: the moving of cattle or other grazing animals to new pastures, often quite distant, according to the change in season

A seter in Gudbrandsdal, Norway, situated above the tree line in the mountains and used for summer pasture.

Øversæter and Øvre Sætre is the same, there were 6 farms named Øvre Sætre in Gloppen in 1865.

I cant find any Peder Monsen Kvile either in the 1900 or in the 1910 cenus or as em. from Bergen or in any cementery.
Searching for Peder Monsen Kvile an Peder Andersen Kvile b. -79 is popping up every time.

Thank you for finding Peder Monsen Dale (Kvile). he died in tunnel explosion during the year of 1904. Interesting and sad. His marriage record (Oct. 25, 1897) jumped at me at first. Why? I saw the end of columns saying "Forloverness Navne og Bopcel" It said Ingebrigt Monsen Dale. Who was he? Was he Mons Pedersen Dale's father? I am very curious about Ingebrigt because I was told that Mons Pedersen Reed/Dale was a son of Peder Thorsen Reed. It got me confused. Can you find out about Ingebrigt Monsen Dale? wow! I learned more and become excited. I will tell Sam Dale about Engle (Ingebrigt)'s brother, Peder. Great Job!

Hi I am collecting so much information on Reed/Oversetter and Valager/Solvberg so far. Now I started to realize that Mons Pedersen Reed (Dale)'s parents died at young ages. Mons' father, Peder Thorsen Reed died June 20, 1849 at age 53. and Mons' mother, Agnete Arnesdatter Reed died June 20, 1851 at age 42 Mons' grandparents, Thor Davidsen Reed died 1843 at age 84 and Maria Pedersen Reed (Sandalen) died 1833 at age 63. Who raised Mons and his brothers, Arne, Thor, Rasmus and David. They lived in Briem, Gloppen, Sogn og Fjordane. I am still curious for why Mons's last name changed to Dale from Reed. Most of his parents and grandparents were gone. None of Mons' uncles and aunts married to Dale. Wonder if Norway had any records for who adopted the children. Does it? Mons Pedersen Reed (Dale) born July 23, 1843 on Dale farm. Thanks. Ted Winter

The third "name" is actually an address. Given name (Mons), patronymic name (Pedersen), residence (originally Dale, later Reed).

After briefly checking earlier in this LONG LONG thread which takes pages and pages to review I see that the link to the original birth record was given earlier in the thread -- he was also born on Reed farm. If he ever lived on Dale - it must have been later than 1865.

See your guy in the 1865 census and notice the name of the farm where he is living --

thanks for info. Yes, I was aware that Mons lived with his brother, Arne and his family in 1865 Census. I wished 1850-55 Census there. Last night I found that Mons' brother, Arne Pedersen Reed (21) married Inger? Ingebrigtsdatter Ovre-Soter on April 12, 1852. Maybe Arne and his wife lived with Mons when he was 9 years old. I was told that Mons was born on Dale farm.. I will try what you gave me - the lists of Online.

thanks for help. I was surprised that Thora Ingebrigtsdatter Ovre-Saeter (1828) was a sister of Brithe Ingebrigtsdatter O-S (1836) who married Mons Pedersen Reed on June 23, 1871. Thora died at age 26. I see that Arne married another woman - Ragnild.

How did you know that Mons was born on Reed? I did not see anything except his parents' last names - Reed. #33 Who was Rasmus Williamsen Reed on the end of column "Om og at beem biemmebst"

Mons' maternal grandmother, Kari Rasmusdatter (Saarem) Reed died Aug. 19, 1860 at age 55. Mons' maternal grandfather, Arne Brynildsen Reed died 1827. Maybe Kari helped raising Mons, Arne, Thor, Rasmus and David when they were little. Arne was 13 when Mons was born. I am figuring out for who cared Reed boys. Maybe Arne Pedersen Reed did most time.

Arne Pedersen Reed (1830) married 1) Thora Ovre-Saeter, then 2) Ragnild Kandal on 1855 (above) (new information on Thora) thanks Einar
Thor Pedersen Reed (1832) married Anna Catherine Christophersdatter ? (cannot read) on Apr. 17, 1859
Rasmus Pedersen Reed (1835) married Anna Elizabeth Hansen on Oct. 18, 1866
David Pedersen Reed (1837) I cannot find who he married to. He died Nov. 4, 1848.
Mons Pedersen Reed (1843) married Brithe Ingebrigtsdtr Ovre-Saeter on June 23, 1871

Try my best. Thanks again Ted
