WOW! ! I cannot thank you both enough for this wealth of information. I'd gotten as far as Ingeborg's birth on my own, but had not seen the actual written records. Nor had I known about the history of the Tesli(e) name and Ole Olsen. This is very exciting information. I am going to put together a visual family tree and hopefully it will help anyone else researching the Tesli name. Again, thank you! |

You are welcome.
Ole Teslie was a teacher when he came from Røros. He must have been an exstraordinay scholar since he was elected to som many honorable missions.
More info about him here
With this translater you can learn more about him.

Just a small, but vital correction. Peter Olaus Bjørnsen was born in 1824, not 1823. Also, I think it would be beneficial to follow the Norwegian naming pratice. The classic form is to use the given or first name, then the patronymic or last name derived from one's father's given name, and then the farm name which represents the address. |

What year was the last year you found Iver F Iverson in the city directory? What happened to Ellen, did she stay on in Chicago?
Here is a link to some description of the early Norwegian settlements in Chicago. Perhaps the storefront was located in one of those areas?
http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/911.html
The other thing was the actual name of the store. Maybe it was called "95" or named after the partner and Scandinavian Book Store was more of a description than a name? |

This book : Norge i Amerika med kart consists of lists of business people and professionals of Norwegian extraction, town by town, published in 1901.
Iverson in Chicago live on page 113. There is an I. Iversen and a Marie Iverson who are listed as (he) Cigarer og Tobakk and (she) as handler.
This book is searchable at Googlebooks and hathitrust.org

Thanks, jwiborg. I have read that article on Scandinavian bookstores and contacted St. Olaf University but so far no luck.
jkmarler, WOW, thank you, that is definitely the one! It makes sense that they were listed as a cigar shop, given that the sign says they sell tickets and money orders. Excellent find. In the 1900 city directory, free to read online, the store is not present. I do not have access to the 1901 directory. Still, this is a very good find!!
I am currently working on compiling all of this into a single file about Iverson - Tesli and hope to have it ready to post by tomorrow.

Norge i Amerika med kart is searchable online. It was digitized and is searchable at Googlebooks and also searchable at www.hathitrust.org (in case Googlebooks makes your computer hiccup like it does mine.) It wont's give you lots of information just the person's name and their business type. |

You write "Elen and Bjørn had two children: Peter Olaus Bjørnsen (born 16 May 1824) and Ingeborg Bjørnsdatter (born 21 Nov 1826). Both were born at the Tesli farm in the region that was now known as Lade." - actually they had two more children Jacob Edvard Bjørnsen (born April 29 1831) and Beret Marta Bjørnsdatter (born April 8 1835).

you write quote: It is likely that Jon died and Ingeborg remarried someone of the name of Johann, because Ingeborg had a daughter Petra Barbara Johannesdatter born about 1870.
From the 1875 census Ingeborgs daughter is named Petra Johanna Olsdatter, her baptism record is #59.
