Here, a link that shows the relationships family-tree style.
http://data.eidsvollsmenn.no/tng/descend.php?personID=I15536&tree=Eidsvollsmenn
From Fredrik Meltzer 1779-1855 scroll way down on the page on the line of his descendants to find his son Oscar Meltzer.
From Oscar Meltzer (and wife Anna Catinka Heyerdahl), scroll up a bit to find their son Lauritz Phillip Meltzer b 1861 (seemingly named after a brother of Oscar who has that name)
At that point you'll see the partners of Lauritz Phillip including your aunt Anne Marie Charlotte Guttormsen, Solheim. Children of these unions appear on the "adopted" list on this website.

On Lauritz Meltzer and Anna Marie, Ancestry.com has an associated document that lists her as Meltzer's wife in, US City Directories 1821-1989,, where she was residing with her son in 1954, in Passaic, Clifton, New Jersey,USA. However, she was listed with the last name of Solheim.

Hi Carol, I think you mean Clifton, Passaic, New Jersey. But anyway just so you know I searched Ancestry.com for the records you mention for Anna Maria Charlotte Guttormsen, Solheim b 1872 and did not find them.

This is likely Ida - I'm basing this on Jan Peter's earlier findings about her:

1900
Overpeck, Bergen, New Jersey
Carl Hallberg 32 born June 1867 Sweden
Ida L Hallberg 31 b April 1869 Norway, to USA 1891, had 3 children, 2 are living, married 7 years
Edwin H Hallberg 4
Arthur R Hallberg 2

1910
Overpeck, Bergen, New Jersey
Carl E Hallberg 42 born about 1868 Sweden
Ida L Hallberg 41 born about 1869 Norway, to USA 1891
Edwin H Hallberg 14
Arthur R Hallberg 12
Thelma M Hallberg 9

6 Sep 1910 arrive New York from Christiania (=old name for Oslo) - Carl, Ida, Arthur and Thelma Hallberg on the Hellig Olav

1920
Ridgefield Park, Bergen, New Jersey
*
Ida Hallberg 50 married, born about 1870 Norway, real estate agent
Edwin Hallberg 24, real estate agent
Thelma Hallberg 18, typist, real estate co
* I looked at the original and indeed Carl is not shown, and Ida is shown as married.

This is probably Edwin in 1930:

1930
Teaneck, Bergen, New Jersey
Edwin Hallberg 35
Irene Hallberg 30
Edwin Hallberg 2 [2 8/12]
Julia Hockin 26

1940
River Edge, Bergen, New Jersey
Edwin Hallberg 44
Irene R Hallberg 40
Edwin Hallberg 12
Stephan J Hallberg 8
Frank R Hallberg 5

1940 Arthur R. Hallberg also in River Edge, single, works as a printer. Says his relationship to head of household is "brother" but he is listed out of order so his sibling is not shown on the same page. I don't see Thelma with any surname so must be Edwin.

U.S. Passport Application
Name: Ida Louise Hallberg
Birth Date: 23 Apr 1869
Birth Place: Christiania Norway
Age: 54
Passport Issue Date: 3 Nov 1923
Passport Includes a Photo: Yes
Residence: Ridgefield Park, New Jersey
Father Name: Carl Hallberg
Father's Birth Location: Sweden
Father's Residence: Deceased
Has resided uninterruptedly in the USA for 32 years from 1891 to 1932
Leaving USA and returning in four months for the following purpose: "Clark's Cruise Around the World."
Daughter Thelma Marie Hallberg also applied for a passport for the purpose of going on this cruise. [transcribed on Ancestry.com as "Phelma" but original is clearly Thelma.] Says Thelma's father is deceased.

Passenger manifest showing Ida and Thelma's return to New York says Thelma M. Hallberg was born 11 April 1911 Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. Arrived 21 Jun 1924 in New York on the Berengaria.
Sounds like fun!

Passport application includes a photo. :D

I can't copy the document. Can you get on Ancestry.com? Possibly you can pull it up where I found it as a link, or shown as a little leaf above Luuritz P. Meltzer's name in the Casper Family tree on that site.

Interesting if Anna Marie Charlotte Guttormsen Solheim could be found in New Jersey. Her sister Ida Lovise Guttormsen in Overpeck Township, Bergen, New Jersey; census-1900.

Jane, I read your whole entry above, hopefully the Casper Family Tree that I am piecing together is posting on the Main Ancestry.com site. When I put the information in, it indicates that it is syncing with the main site. I know I have a limited access version. Let me know if you can pull up the Casper Family Tree from your Ancestry.com., and if you can find the same info I mentioned I have found through the links. Thanks,

Haha - I forgot you had a family tree on Ancestry. Okay, I just went there and no, I do not see it, searching in Public Trees "Casper family Tree" and also just a global search for Gulbrand Caspersen/Kaspersen b 1858 Norway, it does not come up. However, this doesn't mean anything other than that I am doing something wrong.

Some in the forum don't have access to Ancestry.com. It's nice when everyone in the forum can evaluate a given piece of evidence to assess its credibility.

ANNA IS AWOL in the family trees online and Jan Peter could not find her in her later life in Norway. IF INDEED YOU DID FIND HER IN NEW JERSEY that is huge. At the moment I am sceptical.

All I know to do is type the information on here, since I am a newbie, not sure what thread D is. here goes:
The document with the information in question is:
When I open the hint, tis is what I see:
US City Directories 1821-1989
(Looks like an image of an open phone book)
Name: Phillip Meltzer
Gender: Male
Residence: 1954. Passaic; Clifton, New Jersey, USA
Wife: Anna Meltzer

Once I tap the arrow for that hint, the page has more in depth information, which spells out Lauritz's, Anna's, and Harald's full names. Then, I have the option of purchasing the document, and the site shows a free viewing of the document, but I can not copy any of it! frustraring!

Is it this record?

U.S. City Directories, 1821-1989
Year: 1954
NAME: Philip Meltzer
SPOUSE: Anna Meltzer
Clifton, Passaic, New Jersey, USA

This can't be Lauritz Philip Meltzer, who died in Bergen, Norway in 1943.

Possibly she was still listed in the directory, even though she had already passed, and only her son lived there by that date. Seems very unusual, but possible though.

Okay, yes I found the listing in the city directory above, Street address is 1 6 Peach, but that Philip is a tailor. There is no Harold listed with Philip and Anna in the 1954 edition of the Clifton, Passaic, New Jersey city directory. There's a Louis Meltzer here too in a separate residence; he is a meat cutter.

The Lauritz Philip Meltzer who had a child with Anna Guttormsen, Solheim was not a tailor in New Jersey. :D

A coincidence of names.

I doubt that Anna Marie Charlotte Guttormsen Solheim had much contact with Lauritz Philip Meltzer after their son Harald Edvard Meltzer Solheim was born. Lauritz fathered 3 children with a new woman (Anna Maria Monsine Sjurset) few years after Harald was born.
