Jacob Thompson in Nordmændene is mentioned as having a son K.E. Thompson who was county treasurer in Barron county. Possibly K.E. Thompson could be Knute Edward Thompson from findagrave.com:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Thompson&GSiman=1&GScid=89489&GRid=104200162&

Might be of interest to see if K.E. is mentioned in the Barron county history....

Invisible threads to tie Nicholas Thompson to Thomas Thompson to Jacob Thompson. I'm reasonably certain that Nicholas Thompson (1900, 1910), Nicholas Tophelson (1870), Nicholas
Thompson (1860), Nicholas Holt (1860) are the same man as Nicolaus Torfindsen.

Was hoping Anne, wife of Nichols Torfindsen had a middle name of Marie but she did not. So now am moving on to find information about the probable half siblings of Thomas Thompson, and cousins (descendants of probable uncle Jacob) who may have kept stories about their sibling or cousin Thomas Thompson. This is the aggressive, dogged pursuit in which I specialize.

Here is the family in the 1870 census:
page 3, Wisconsin, Chippewa County, Bloomer Prairie taken by H.A. Stanley on 2 Oct 1870 (with additional date stamp of 3 Dec 1870) line 27-34:
Tophelson, Nicholas age 47 m w born Norway, real estate value $1000, personal prop value $800
" , Caroline f w age 28 Home born Norway
" , Thoms m w age 15 " born Wisconsin
" , Ole m w age 7 " "
" , Isaac m w age 6 " "
" , Samuel m w age 5 " "
" , Annie f w age 3 " "
" , Elizabeth f w age 1 " "

There is an Isaac Thompson b. 1865 d. 1920 in the Bloomer cemetery at findagrave. I believe this is he in the 1900 census living with an Isaac & Eleana Lund family.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MMKS-5JP

Isaac Lund may have married a woman whose last name was Thompson--at least a note containing the mother's maiden name of Thompson for a birth in 1888 in Chippewa county for a child of Isaac Lund. Couldn't find the marriage partner but date given for Isaac Lund's marriage 27 June 1883 in Chippewa.

Here is the bride info copied from the Wisconsin History Society website search:

Marriage Record Details
Last Name: Thompson
First Name: Elrual
Day: 27
Month: June
Year: 1883
County: Chippewa
Volume: 01
Page: 0224

There is also a county history of Chippewa county in which Isaac Lund's story appears on pg 449-450:

WNI Record Details
Last Name: Lund
First Name: Isaac
Qualifier:
Day:
Month:
Year:
County: Chippewa
Volume: 2
Page: 449-50
Record Type: Biographical Sketch
Source: Chippewa county, Wisconsin, past and present
Published: 1913
Location: R51 N168-Vol I; F587.C48 C48--Vol II

Notes:
Portrait: no

Isaac Lund and Elena Lund are buried in the same cemetery the Bloomer City Cemetery as Isaac Thompson. Isaac Lund's dates are 1852-1945 and Elena's dates are 1864-1923

Likely Elena belongs to Jacob Thompson's family as daughter "Lena" in the 1880 census was born about 1864.

I believe this is Isaac Thompson in the 1920 census with a wife and two small children both boys Will age 4, Merlyn age 0:

Rose Elementary, Billinghurst Middle School, and Reno High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree and Teacher's Diploma from the University of Nevada in 1942. In 1947, she married Merlynn Thompson, who preceded her in death in 2003.

In the 1940's, Mertice was employed at First National Bank of Nevada, where she returned to work in the 1960's. At that time, she worked in the MasterCard department. She retired in 1981.

Three sisters, Glenna Delle Kimzey, Czerna Nall, Marjorie Denton and brothers Charles and Marvin (Bud) McQuerry preceded her in death.

Mertice is greatly missed and will always be remembered by her family and friends. Inurnment will be at Sierra Memorial Gardens on September 30th at 1:00. A celebration of her life will be held at her family's home following interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nevada Humane Society in her name.

Her family would like to thank the owner and staff of Home Away from Home for all the caring assistance they gave Mertice during her last months.

'Spect so.

Okay the likeliest church for the families to have attended when living at Bloomer:

Bloomer Prairie Evangelical Lutheran.
founded 13 Dec 1866.
Jacob Torfindson was the first secretary of the congregation in 1866
Isaac Lund (Jacob's son-in-law) was a trustee in 1914.

This from Norsk Luthereske Menigheter i Amerika 1843-1916 by O.M. Norlie.

The Federal government is open again!

Dispense of land from the Federal Government in Chippewa county, Wisconsin.

Jacob Torfendsen was issued a patent on 15 Sept 1871, an original homstead of 120 acres in Township 30 N, Range 009 W, in Section 23, SW 1/4, NE 1/4 & NW 1/4 , SE 1/4 & NE 1/4, SW 1/4.

The only entry for Nicholas Thompson is a Military warrant issued on 1 Aug 1860 based on the Scrip Warrant Act of 1855 of 120 acres in favor of Mary Thompson widow of Nicholas Thompson, private, Captain McMurray's Company, Tennessee Militia, War 1812. The acreage is described as Township 30 N, Range 009 W in section 34, NE 1/4, SW 1/4 & W 1/2, SW 1/4. John W. Mansfield is the assignee of Mary Thompson. The land itself is located just north of the town of Bloomer.

Unless information about Thomas Thompson / Nicholas Thompson is radically wrong, I doubt that the Nicholas Thompson in the warrant above is the same man as Nicholas Thompson the resident of Chippewa county in 1860, 1870, 1900. But if you have $40 burning a hole in your pocket you could get a copy of the homestead file of Jacob Torfendsen from the National Archives.

The website where you may search for the basic homestead information on Jacob Torfendsen's patent is:

www.glorecords.blm.gov

Search Land patents, input for Wisconsin or for any state (default is Alabama, don't do that) input his name. You may see a map which if you click on the box in front of the legal description of the land engages the mapping feature so you can see where (at least to the section level) where the land was located. You will need the numbers associated with his file to order the actual homestead file. The actual files are not viewable online but you may purchase them.
