The 1865-census for Enok Andersen is not the correct guy. His full name is Enok Andersen Vangberg, and he did not emigrate. Born in Frosta, Norway on 1843 to Anders Olsen Vangberg and Anna Marta Dalsve. Enok Andersen married Karstine Nilsdtr Dalsve and had 3 children. He passed away on 1903 in Frosta, Norway.

Enok born 04 Apr 1843 is the correct one.

Certainly--I don't have much--very sad--
You are all so kind to assist in this endeavor-
Here is his gravesite in New York:

1. THOMPSON, CLIFFORD
QM/3C US NAVY
WORLD WAR I
DATE OF BIRTH: 04/14/1903
DATE OF DEATH: 04/03/1962
BURIED AT: SECTION 2J SITE 3450
LONG ISLAND NATIONAL CEMETERY
2040 WELLWOOD AVENUE FARMINGDALE, NY 11735-1211
(631) 454-4949

And this is astounding to me as he would have been quite young enlisting-
This is the area of interest-that he went into the Navy (from Denver or Minnesota?) and Alice (1905) and Esther (1908) went to Minnesota possibly with their mother? and that at the 1920 census, Walter G. and Ernest are in Denver--and after that no further information on them-
I think he died of heart failure-and was a smoker-I will check with my dad--
Thanks so much!
Diane

He was a motorman for the elevated train, Brooklyn-Jamaica line in New York City, the BMT, and before that worked the trolleys--in the 1920's through the 1940's--I will check back with my dad-
Interestingly, my dad Richard was a bus drive throughout the 1970's and Walter G, Clifford's dad was a watchman for the Union Pacific RR, and I became a locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific RR during the 70's! Without even knowing about this train background-

Thanks for sharing. Yes, he would have only been 14 in 1917, so to be in the USNavy for service in WWI seems very young indeed. I'm pasting in a list of the Clifford Thompson heads of household from 1940 census. Do any of these look likely?

These two are the most likely-I will check with my dad Richard to see if he remembers where they were living--
I was unable to get census results for Clifford-thank you for you this so much!-
Clifford was married to Alice L. Manning, born 1905, daugher of Richard Manning and Elizabeth--the Manning side being Swedish and the Elizabeth Johnson side, either England or Northern Ireland, with son Richard, daughters Florence, Hulda and Alice, my paternal grandmother--
blessings,
Diane

I think this file relates to your grandfather.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/2CHX-SLW

It appears that he died in Hempstead, Nassau county.

They married in Queens in 1925. You might want to order their certificate for your records if you don't already have. The site where I got this information also tells how to order it:

Last Name Given Name Month/Day Year CtfNum County Soundex ID
Thompson Clifford Jul 16 1925 1556 Queens T512 1883957

Bride: Alice Manning

You haven't said if you'd found your grandfather in the 1930 census but here he is, along with your dad in his first census:

Thanks so much!
will pass this on to my dad-
I may be putting in search criteria wrong, because it wasn't working for me--for finding Clifford
I have tried using archived obits for the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post with a date of 22 June 1936 as a death date for Walter G. Thompson to see if I could locate his grave as well as Anna's==
I really appreciate the help!
Blessings,
Diane

Well, here's why you couldn't find him in the 1940 census, his first name was written as Frederick instead of Clifford. Florence and Hulda were sisters to your dad or sisters to your grandma Alice?

If you're not familiar with familysearch.org, along the right hand column you can click "view document" or "view image" and you can look at the actual handwritten schedule. It should tell what he earned in the last year.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K3BQ-7VL?cc=2000219

Maybe he was Frederick in the 1920 census, too?

Can't find in 1920 census as Frederick or Clifford with parents Walter G or brother Ernest A--
If he was in WWI then he may have gone back to Minnesota, or was in the NY area where he met Alice-
Will explore those-

I was also unable to find a Thompson b 1903 Minnesota who seemed likely to be yours. Maybe he was still in the Navy in 1920 and at sea and therefore not counted?

There is a quirky New York newspaper site, search and looks are free, which you might want to try for Clifford. Perhaps an obituary for him might list any of his surviving siblings with married names and location, provided someone in New York knew them to record them, etc.

Thanks so much for that--
I can't access the newspaper as I don't have the updated adobe flash on my computer--
Clifford Thompson is on the 1905 minnesota census with Walter G, Anna and Ernest A--
You are right he could have been at sea during 1920--another question for my dad=
Much appreciate the help--
btw, I have found in the Denver Directories 1920, 1923, 1911, Walter G with various occupations, glacier, inventor, watchman and something called cJk, which needs an explanation from the DPL-still working the Denver situation-

I think the newspaper site will link you with a place to get the version of the program--or at least it used to link you to that.

Also don't forget to look for Ernest and Sonia Anderson....
