Well St Peter is the county seat of Nicollet County. Have you seen this death certificate.

Minnesota, Death Index, 1908-2002
Name: Kari Lars Rustin
Death Date: 12 Mar 1920
Death County: Nicollet
State File Number: 009043
Certificate Number: 009043
Certificate Year: 1920
Record Number: 298714

She does seem to be listed in the 1920 US Census at St Peter, however looking at the document it states the date for the census was 2 January 1920 so it is possible for her to have died in March and still be in the census.

Karen Rustin in the 1920 United States Federal Census
Name: Karen Rustin
[Roren Rustin]
Age: 69
Birth Year: abt 1851
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1920: St Peter Ward 2, Nicollet, Minnesota
Race: White
Gender: Female
Relation to Head of House: Inmate
Marital Status: Married
Father's Birthplace: Norway
Mother's Birthplace: Norway
Native Tongue: Norwegian
Able to Speak English: Yes

Larson- It seems after 1885 all the older children identified as Larson from then on. My maiden is Larson :) Peter lived in Minneapolis when he signed the certificate. His address was listed as 2930 Freemont Ave. S. That is all I have on Peter. There is a photo of Lars, Peter, and Sigurd. Not sure where it was taken. They all look middle aged. Sigurd was 51 when he died.

This is the certificate I have requested. Hopefully it has something to help determine if this is either my Kari or her daughter.

Hans Olaf Rustin born to Lars and Kari Rustin 12/17/1887 appears as Hans Olaf Larson in 1895 living in Cedar Township. He is listed in 1900 as a servant. Then In 1915 he is married and in Iowa.

I found a Peter Larson born in 1876 in the 1910 census living in Cedar Township with the same family Hans lived with earlier on. Peter is also listed as a servant at age 34.
Evidence that the twins born to Lars and Kari Hanson are this same family is that one of them, Tom Larson at age 9, is living with another family in Cedar Township. Curious about the names of these boys in the birth account and christening account are different. Also curious about the other twin.

Seems like a good possibility, I have been able to trace Hans Olaf through to his death. He got married in Iowa and then later moved back to Minnesota. I will post the details later. Working on Peter now. I think I have him in Odin in 1905 then Cedar Martin 1910. Nothing yet for 1920 but think I have him in Minneapolis in 1930. So exciting. All the details you have all found make it so much easier to determine if it is the correct person. I truly appreciate all of the help!

This again seems to match. The death certificate she found had his mothers name as Rusten! Sigurds obituary said he had 4 brothers. So far it seems Peter, Hans, Thomas are all living in 1933. That leaves Lars the oldest or the other twin. Hmm...

The H could be related to the whole Hansen, Larson, Rusten thing again.

And there are always some little nagging things to bring doubt. Here is likely his WWI draft registration. The birth date is off?

Name: Thomas Larson
County: Brown
State: Minnesota
Birth Date: 27 Mar 1885

That is interesting. The death record from Redwood was the correct date. Just when you think it's getting easy!

I noticed in the SS Death Index that his last residence is given as Renville County. So looked for him there in the 1930 and 1940 Census. Maybe married again to a woman with children?

Yes, Thomas marries again this time in Iowa. Lists his birthplace as Martin County, Iowa rather than Odin, Watonwan County. Maybe because he was raised there?
