I would not rule anything out at this stage.

There is a modest amount of information connecting the Marieane Larson leaving Norway in 1881 found by Jan Peter to the Maria Larsen born 15 June 1856 in Løten, Hedmark, Norway.

There is very little if any evidence connecting her to the Mari Ane Larsen who married Axel Lie 4 July 1882.

For example wrong birth date and year. Wrong father ie Lars Olsen not Lars Henriksen and wrong mother ie Berthe Hendriksdatter not Petra or Petronelle Olsen.

However I have had no luck finding any one born with the two parents listed in the New York marriage certificate. That lead me to wonder if the certificate names were somehow completely wrong and to try a new approach with the above results.

Gathering a few more bits on Marie / Marianne might help.

There is a database at ancestry which covers the Axel Lie / Lee families. He was married at least twice, first to Marie Larsen and second to Christina Trimm / Tremm and had children with each wife. He lived in New York until about 1894 or so and then moved to Philadelphia.

In both the baptismal records of Axel's and Marie's daughters her name is rendered Marie f. (short for født) Larsen. The oldest child was named Anne Marie Louise born 2 Sept 1884, bapt.21 Sept 1884. Anne Marie's witnesses were: Marianne Rosenquist, Anton Erickson, Anders Lie, Mrs. Mathilda Rosenquist. Axel's name was rendered as Axel Lie.

The 2nd child's name is Lydia Augusta. She was born 13 Apr 1887 and bapt. 15 May 1887. Lydia's witnesses were: C.A. Hansen, Adolph Hansen, Mrs. Karen Hansen, Adolfine Hansen. Axel's named is rendered as Axel Lee.

Both of Axel's marriages were performed / recorded in and both baptisms were performed / recorded in Our Savior's Lutheran church in Brooklyn.

The database gave a death date of 1888 for Marie but I think this is in error. There is no funeral recorded in Our Savior's records between 1887-1892 for any Marie, Mary, Mari, Marianne, either Larsen or Lie/ Lee, or wife of Axel Lie/ Lee. There is one truncated entry for a person with the surname Lee with one date 31 May 1891 and a burial location of Greenwood cemetery. No first name is recorded nor any other dates nor spouse name.

The Italian Gen Group death database does have a death for a Marianne Lee, age 37, died Kings county, 29 May 1891, cert # 8890.

The online searchable database for Greenwood cemetery has a Marianne Lee buried on 31 May 1891, entry #19684, Section 13, grave 336.

You may have the right death date of 31 May 1891. It looks like Axel married his second wife shortly thereafter.

Axel Lee in the New York, New York, Marriage Index 1866-1937
Name: Axel Lee
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 2 Sep 1891
Marriage Place: Kings, New York, USA

Certificate Number: 3550

The Rosenquists were involved with this family, appearing as witnesses at the wedding and for one of the baptisms. They might be friends and possibly relatives.

Here they are in 1880, both parents born in Norway all the children born in New York:

Probably the death record fro Lydia Augusta Lee, she gives the birth place of her mother as Denmark. She may be referring to her step-mother Christine Timm who may have been born in Denmark.

In the 1865 Census for Hedmark there are only 8 famlies with a Marie Lars* born between 1852 and 1857. Fathers are

Lars Paulson
Lars Larsen
Lars Larsen
Lars Olsen
Lars Thomassen
Lars Larsen
No father, mother is Andrea Mikkelsdatter
Lars Johnson

In the same census there is only a few Lars Henriksen with daughters close to 1853 and a name close to Marie,

What do we know about Marie?

She was in U.S. by 4 July 1882.

Name: at marriage MariAnne Larsen
at baptisms of 2 children: Marie Larsen
at death (potential): Marianne Lee

Birthplace: at marriage (2 records): Hidemarken, Hedomorden

Birthdate: civil record of marriage age 29 (on July 4, 1882)
church record of marriage: 25 Feb 1853
at death (potential): age 37 (on 29 May 1891)

There are 30 something parishes in Hedmark, have all been searched for that birthdate?

The region "Hedemarken" in Hedmark county consist of the municipalities Hamar, Løten, Ringsaker and Stange.
Thus; the search could be narrowed to the churchbooks of Romedal, Vang, Nes, Løten, Ringsaker and Stange.

The data base "All Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927" on Ancestry.com can be searched by birth date. Searching by 25 Feb 1853 for Hedmark brings up 15 names. That includes births from Vang, Nes, Løten, and Stang, No one is listed from Ringsaker, however other dates in Feburary 1853 do include Ringsaker, so Ringsaker is in the data base as well. I do not know how complete the data base is however.
