Thanks to all who have contributed to this topic. I don't believe Andrine C. Johnsdatter has been found in records from the period in question: 1886-1907. The very thorough search by lyndal40 displays every likely 1900 record from Bergen and Hordaland, but none of these 8 women seem likely; we know the woman born in Isdal is a different person, her birth recorded in the same register as Andrine's. In the other cases, birth places or middle names don't match...or the woman is married. The Nykirken register says the marriage of my grandparents was the first for each of them, and I assume the Lutheran church took this statistic seriously, since it is assigned its own column in the register.
No doubt she is there somewhere in the 1891 and 1900 censuses and other records, hidden behind a misspelled name or ?? I will try to follow up on recommendations of jk marker and JaneC to look in more obscure records if available...and someday I will bring this topic back to the forum for another try.
