In the 1920's, the United States tried to restrict immigration by stricter laws. This led to the fact that many Norwegians chose to travel to Canada during this period. And maybe a single immigrant had better chances to stay, rather than a married man with a big family back home? So maybe he said he was single due to this?

The only records we have seen on Elias (Bill) Olson we have seen and can verify are his headstone and the newspaper account of his death. Depending on the headstone as accurate (was it actually put up in the day?), his name is Elias Olson and his nickname is Bill he was born 28 May 1900 and died 9 March 1952.

These are all the Olson males born 28 May 1900 in the 1910 Norwegian census:
Alf Olsen(male) 1900-05-28 Berg s ug skolebarn Berg: Tændstikkens arbeiderbolig 1910-12-01 1910 census for Berg

Leif Olsen (male) 1900-05-28 Bærum s ug søn Botne: Blekvoldens (Melkefabrikens) Arbeiderbolig Nr I (A) 1910-12-01 1910 census for Botne

Olav Olsen (male) 1900-05-28 Skaanevik s ug Skaanevik: Skarveland 1910-12-01 1910 census for Skånevik

Olav Olsen Olsnæs (male) 1900-05-28 Bruvik s ug Bruvik: Dale(gaard) 1910-12-01 1910 census for Bruvik

Rikart Olssen Mule (male) 1900-05-28 Børsen s ug Søn Børsen: Wiggen (Berget) 1910-12-01 1910 census for Børsa

Johan Ulman Olsen (male) 1900-05-28 Thingvold s ug Barn Mo: Mo nedre,117 1910-12-01 1910 census for Mo

Johannes Olsen
(male) 1900-05-28 Gildeskaal s ug Søn Flakstad: Sund 1910-12-01 1910 census for Flakstad

Ole Olsen
(male) 1900-05-28 Vaagan s ug Skolebarn Vaagan: Mølnossen (plads) 1910-12-01 1910 census for Vågan

Otherwise there are a total of 78 Norwegian males of every name with the 28 May 1900 birthdate as found in the 1910 Norwegian census.

Check the other thread for my recent post on using 28 May 1900 as a record to find some candidates. Not having much luck.

Jackie did you come across this Vemund Elias Olsen born in 1898 leaving for New York in 1914.

Link

When he arrived in New York he used Vermund and was with a large group of seamen.

No, because I limited it to people leaving between 1920-1930.

Hi Audrey,
I hope you take your time to read through the replies given to you regarding the search for your father. Some info is given in your other topic Family of Elias Olsen.
As you can read from the findings; we have serious doubts that the Elias Olsen (26) on the Carmania in April 1924 is your father.

Why are you so confident this arrival shows your father?
How and where did you obtain the manifest?
