Those are GREAT finds! Wonderful. So interesting! In terms of a family tree, (compiled for my Mother), will there be birth dates for these family members of ours? We do have Ludvig's of course. Iam most hopeful of giving a family tree to my mother. (mother's day looks like a likely event for this) This is coming a "long" way from knowing nothing for her!! She's 89 tomorrow!
Thank you so much! KAnnie |

Lars Larsen who was married to Kari Olsdatter was born Nov 1 1810, see #66 Few of the old baptismal records give a birth date. |

Thanks very much Einar! I have found a list of newspapers in Oslo. I don't find one with the name "Tiden Tegn" from your previous post. It is my hope to reach the correct newspaper, that may have history dating to my gr. g. 's time frame In hopes of finding, of course, some distant (however!) relatives, and also info on Ludvig himself (maybe). Do you have a suggestion for my query? Thanks so much! KAnnie |

If you can Google, search for Ørebladet. You should get a hit under "Bruktbutikker antikkbutikker gamle reklameskilt Skrotnissen.no" for sale of issue no. 116 from 1900, it is sold but you will have a picture of it. Of course you will also find a hit to this topic! In a hit concerning journalist Elvestad this can also be found "Nå gikk ikke arbeidsstilen utover Elvestads ry som pressemann. Tvert imot er det en journalistisk styrke å kunne skrive når og hvor som helst. Dessuten overholdt han bare ett av de viktigste bud fra læretiden i Ørebladet. Ludvig Larsen orket nemlig ikke synet av sine medarbeidere ved skrivebordet: ”Hva sitter dere her for? Ut og se at snuse op nyt”, beordret han." Well, his working style did not affect Elvestads reputation as a reporter. To the contrary it is the strength of a journalist to be able to write when and where necessary. Besides he fulfilled one of the most important command from his apprenticeship in Ørebladet. Ludvig Larsen could not stand the sight of his employees at the desk. "Why do you sit here? Go out and snoop around for news" was his order. |

You could try this
click on Verdens gang, Dagsavisen or Morgenbladet and try to get answers to your questions. |

Article of most interest to us. Where did you find it...and is there more? (seemed still to have more content)? Not having a great deal of success with the Orebladet for info of my Ludvig. Guess I don't know how to go about it. I'm confused, is this newspaper still around? Such a challenge not being able to read what is there. Have ordered a Nor./Eng. dictionary! Found the picture of the old newpaper! A selling forum like ebay? Very interesting! But in Norwegian. Best Regards, KAnnie |

Petra Marie born Aug 9 1868 Hof in Solør, Hedmark, see #75 Her parents were Kristian Hansen and Mathea Hansen (born Sætre?). Kristian Hansen was a country store keeper (Landhandler in Norwegian) The family in the 1900 census is here Petra Marie is now with the family (returned from Bilet, if it was her that was Christians mother) and she is not married. Normal practice would be to give the first born son the same name as the father of the mother or father.

Petras parents were married Febr 28 1868 according to the baptismal record for Christian Waldemar, see #205 The family was in Grue in 1875, see here Petras father Christian was born May 21 1835, see #85 Petras grandparents then were Hans Christiansen and Maria Wernersdatter. Petras mother Marthea was born June 21 1840, see #157 Petras grandparents then were Halvor Olsen and Pernille Bentsdatter. Petras sister Helga Mathilde was born Oct 20 1869 in Grue, but was baptized in Hof church, see between #57 and 58 here and the sister Hilda Bertha was born in Grue, see #41

I must ask your opinion Einar. From your expertise, on what percentage are you convinced this is the Petra Hansen we're looking for? And thanks again, for your expertise on all levels! I couldn't be more pleased! Do you have, or know where I may get a really good Norwegian map to indicate the proximity of these two locations for Ludvig and Petra? Also, I have the "green book" dictionary, although many of the words from the censuses (1875 & 1900) are not in this book. I was able to see the word servant (tyende), and that is all. Am wondering what type as it lists more than one. How close geographically were these two locations?? Kind Regards, KAnnie

Christian Johnsæter Larsen born at Bilet, Fredrikstad, Østfold July 31, baptized at home Aug 1 by Madam Emilie Altenborn (midwife), which was confirmed in church Aug 23, all 1896. Father Editor Ludvig Kristian Larsen, born May 1 1866 at Vollafaldet, Bakklandet Trondhjem, Sør-Trøndelag Parents Carpenter Lars Larsen and Alette Marie Jørgensdatter Mother Petra Marie Hansdatter, born Aug 9 1868 Hof in Solør, Hedmark Parents Store keeper Christian Hansen and Mathea Halvorsdatter, Sætre. From this I would be 95% certain that we got the right parents. Both Christian Johnsæters father was a Christian and his grandfather (Petras father) was a Christian. Futhermore Petras mother was born on a farm Søndre Sætre, Aasnes (where there also was a farm Jonsæter) which could have influenced Christians middle name Johnsæter. One of the godparents at Christian Johnsæter christening was clerk Christian Hansen – if it was not for the title it could well have been Petras father, but he was a store keeper (at least at Petras and her siblings births) To see where Ludvig was born use this map and search for Vollafallet. Use the same map to see where Petra was born, search for Sætre, Åsnes, gårdsbruk, Hedmark. (Use the zooming facilities to see where in Norway the two places are) Another map is this http://ngis2.statkart.no/norgesglasset/default.html

How about at the baptismal, the Christian Hansen---being Petras brother?? If I'm reading this correctly, he would have been 20 years old in 1896. Does that sound like a likely? K |

Could you bump up the percentage of accuracy with that probability? Einar, would you mind helping me with the meaning of the name "Johnsaeter" (besides being a farm name) My sister tells me its a shelter type of home in the mountains for shepards. Kind Regards and thanks! KAnnie |

Johnsæter most likely comes from Johns summer pasture - does not have to be a place high up in the mountains, but was normally at some distance off the cultivated farm land. Have you tried using the map facilities I suggested? |
