Kare, thank you for the information on Sigurd. Thank you for clarifying how the Ruuds got their name. On page 1 where Jan Peter posted the farms are there any living relatives living on the farms Rud Sondre or Sjol Nordra or have the farms been purchased by non-relatives or is there no way to check this? Thanks for continuing to try to trace relatives. You and the other forum members have added so much to our family history book. Jean

Hi, from the birth record we can read Sigurd was born in "Komunegaarden" Sigurd´s mother Susanne (b. Jan. 11. 1871) died in "Barselseng" Childbirtht, in the same house.

Komunegaarden, spelled Kommunegċrden today, was a former City hall and administration centre in Sande, see the 2 storey white house with the black roof in picture nr 16, here.

For a better understanding of the information from the other pictures from Sande I can recommend this translater.

Hi Kare, You said in a previous posting that "6 of Edvards siblings are as follows, all born on Sĝndre Rud:- Anette Nicoline b. August 14. bap. Oct. 14. 1866, #39- Martin b. Feb. 16. bap. Mai 17. 1869 (Norways national day) #19- Martine b. Sept. 2. bap Nov. 29. 1874 #37- Peter Emil b. Feb. 27. bap. June 6. 1880 #17- Jenny Marie b. July 1. bap. Oct. 14. 1883 #34 - Mathilde b. June 16. bap. Sept. 12. 1886 #28 Sande 1900. Martine, Jenny and Mathilde lived on Sĝndre Ruud with the parents. Martin was a lease holder on Heimdal, your Edvard worked for Martin. Usually first born son was named after his fathers father Amund, cant´t find any Amund Pedersen Ruud." You found more information on Jenny Marie up until 1930. Is there more information on the other Ruud siblings? Possibly one that would trace to a living relative? Thanks for the information on Sigurd Salvesen. He never married in Canada so has no direct descendents. Jean

Hi Kare,
Does it say why Karen Emilie Rud went to Royken? Was she working there or did she get married there? Did she stay in Royken?

Thank you, Kare for the addtional information on Karen. Did she have any descendents? The other sibling I was wondering about was Martine as I found a name that looked like that on an old snapshot in handwriting. I am always amazed that you can decipher the attachments for extra meaning. I usually can pick out the names but the rest is not readable to me. I hope the sun is shining for you today. Cold and rainy here and even snowing in Edmonton. Canada's weather can be very unpredictable at times.

Hi Kare,
Is there a record of Margrethe Sjol going to the US around 1914? What boat would Edward Pedersen Ruud have emigrated on to go to the US in 1904? Thanks, Jean

Hi Jean,
I can´t find the emigration record for Margrete Sjĝl or Sigurd.

The ship for Edvard and Peter Emil Ruud 1904 was United States, arr. New York

Sigurd moved to Oslo, recorded 1909.

Thank you for looking Kare. I wonder if Margrethe went to the United States before 1914. She got married on September 30, 1914 to Johan Weltsin (first marriage). Maybe Otilie, her sister and Sigurd went with Margrethe. Otilie must have married Edvard in the States before they moved Canada. I have a naturalization certificate for Canada for Edvard for August 15, 1910. His wife Otilie died in child birth in Canada a couple of years after they moved to Canada. I am amazed you and others have found what you have found. Thank you for giving me the ship that Edvard and Peter traveled on.

Thanks Kare, for finding the last of the siblings. Did Anton go to Wisconsin too? If so maybe that is why Edvard went to Wisconsin. Jean

Hi,
Can´t find Antons emigration record, he emigrated 16 years berfore Edvard, one must assume that Edvards first stop in USA was with his brother.

Found some information yesterday on Statsarkivet Kongsberg, "Sandeboka" from 1939.
Not much info there, from Sjĝl I could not find anything, but I was in a hurry.

Martin Pedersen takes over Ruud 1910, Ruud was also called Hagebakken.

Anette Nicoline Pedersdatter Ruud b. 1866 married Johan Utsigt, superintendent in Oslo.

From the death record March 13. 1912.
Peder Amundsen Rud seems to have had a good economy, he was a "Rentenist" lived of the interests of his capital.

Died March 13, buried March 23 "Gift" Married Rentenist and former farmer Peder Amundsen Rud b. 1836 on Teie in Eiker, recidence Rud, cause of death ; Asthma and heart paralysis.
Has doctor visited during the disease ; Yes
Has the death been reported to the authorities; Yes
see #9
