Ole Tormundsen Vasbø b. 1859 (Teodor b. 1885s father) may also be the same as Ole T. Vasbø or Ole Vasbø.
Teodor b. 1885 may also be the same as Teodor Olsen Vasbø, Teodor O. Vasbø or Teodor Vasbø.

Here is another record for the marriage of Ole Tormundsen Vasbø and Talette Aslaksdatter. Father of the groom is listed as Tormund Torkelsen and father of the bride is listed as Aslak Osmundsen Odlandsstø

Another bit of evidence that the earlier mentioned Torger Tormundsen Vasbø is a brother of Ole Tormundsen Vasbø. Marriage of Torger Tormundsen Vasbø with father listed as Tormund Torkelsen Vasbø and a witness is Ole Tormundsen Vasbø.

Before Tormund was a widower he and his first wife Tori Torgirsdatter had son Torger mentioned above.

Ralph,

Here are the two families in the 1865 Norwegian Census. The first family census duplicates one that Einar posted earlier and shows the family of Tollef Williensen and contains youir Ole Tollefsen. The second family is that of Tormod Torkildsen and contains your Ole Tormodsen. It also contains his brothers Torkild and Tormud. It is quite possible that the two families are unreleated. it is possible that one gave rise to Jonas and the other to Teodor. But you need to work though all of this data and determine the relationship if any between the two families. You will note they are living on different farms in 1865.

Ralph.
There are many names to sort out, after having read through sometimes you will understand it better.
Genealogy somtimes takes time and the Norwegian naming practices is confusing to understand until you get used to it.
I believe it´s the right persons brought up here.

I also found your posting in the LDS records where
Jonas Olsen Vasbø married 1903 in MT. to Else Tjorn

Wow, I/m overwhelmed at the extraordinary effort you have all shown! More than I could have ever anticipated. Such a wealth of information. My cousins, the Vasboes, will be as appreciative as I am. I've just about sorted it out. My biggest problem is trying to figure out surnames. And how to list birthplaces. For instance, I'm trying to figure out how to list Tallete Aslaksdatter. Would I use the surname Odlandssto as her father is listed or Aslaksdatter? As far as the Tollefson, Tollefsen, and others I have decided to go with Vasbo in order to make them easier to sort. Especially since they use the name in the US. And then put the other names in parenthesis. So confusing, but so great to have all the info from their Norwegian connection. Up til a few days ago there was no record at all. I'm sure I still have many errors. Continually updating and correcting. It's an ongoing process which makes it all the more interesting. Many thanks and more to come.

Looks like only 5 children for Tonnes. Can't figure who the other 3 listed on the census belong to.

It is not an easy task to handle the names and name changes. A person can be born on a farm (gård), such as Ramses, given a first name (førenamn) such as Lars. If his father was named Tollef, he would likely be called Lars Tollefson Ramses. Using Tollefsen as his last name (Etternamn). As he got older and married and perhaps moved to another farm to work or to live, his name in church records could change and in the chruch records he could be listed as Lars Tollefsen Frigstad (new farm is the Frigstad farm).

Thus it is valuable if you keep track of the first name and last name since except for alternative spellings they tend not to change but the farm name can change as many as five to six times in a persons lifetime.

If this person emigrated to America he might keep his name as Lars Tollefsen or he might have adopted the name Lars Frigstad or even Lars Ramses. Thus making the tracking of a person even more difficult.

You are welcome Ralph.

Tjørn1875.
Tønnes´s parents had a servant girl, Serine Sigbjørnsdatter and Tønnes had a male servant, Johannes Iversen, and a servant maid Ingeborg Tønnesdatter Holmen.
The census do not tell if they were family members or ordiany employees.

Info reg. Norwegian naming pratices here and here

Tjørn/Kjørren 1900
Tønnes oldest son Helge Tønnesen/Helge Kjørren owns the farm, he was unmarried.
Tønnes was a widower an "Føderaadsmand" , former owner with a legal right on free supplies and lodging on Tjørn for his life.
Three Tønnesen children, probably siblings, Bertine 1880 servant maid, Jonas and Mandius were foster sons, see here

The other three people are

Johannes Ivers. Tjenstedreng - a hired man
Ellen Tollefsd. Tønnes H. Svigermoder - the mother-in-law of Tønnes Hælges.
Ingeborg Tønnesd. Holmen Tønnes Hælgesen Tjenstepige - the servant girl of Tønnes Hælgesen

Here are a couple of translation websites that might be of help.

You mentioned Odlandssto.
Could it be Americanized from Ådland/Aadland, lots of Ådland farms in Rogaland and Hordaland counties.

Perhaps a shot in the dark; Odlandssto may be the same as Ådlandstova/Aadlandstova from ca 1400 on farm Ådland taken over by the museum 1913 in Stord parish in Hordaland County?

Kjørn/ Kjørren 1910
Tønnes Helgesen still lived, his son Helge married ca 1903 to Ingeborg Nicolaisdatter, 4 children, 3 dau. and a son.
The 3 Tønnesen children (siblings?) from the 1900 census were still on the farm.

Thanks again. got the Helgesen cleared up. Only one more puzzle bothering me. Tormud (Tormund) Torkildsen "Vasbo"? had 2 wives, Olene Gulleksdatter and Bodil Kristine Gunlefsdatter. There are 6 children. Who belongs to whom? According to the marriage for Bodil 11 Nov 1855, Torkild and Torgir were not hers. Not sure where to put the others.
