If Amy is Jenny Amalie's child she should be in Norway for the 1885 census, as Jackie said - but she's not. That discrepancy needs to be explained. Amy could be a child of Peter Oluf Johnson from an earlier relationship? She could be with her mother in Chicago in 1885? In 1900 the two children who appear to be children of Peter Oluf and Caspara are split up - one with father, one with mother. Point being this Sophie can't yet be ruled out.

Need her death certificate, or obit, or original of her marriage record (or ditto for Amy) - seeking parents' names.

I've seen the original of the church register of the marriage of Sophie & Edward and have reported all the information there except their ages. Sophie is listed as 21.

Amy and Sophie could be in the same household in 1900--that could be looked for.

If Amy is Peter's child, then we need to know more about Peter. His coroner's inquest and the homicide file of George Johnson might contain more familial details but will cost something to get, as will either of their death certificates. The child Alice came later in 1890 and was born in 1879 the year before Peter came to US, perhaps there is something in one of the censuses about Alice's & Amy's migration? There might be a family story or two about Peter lodged with the son Arthur, his life might be worth exploring as well. The divorce files, if they still exist, for Peter and Jennie and possibly Peter and Caspara could be explored for details.

I have found one Sophie Johnson in US census 1940 as widowed living with a 3 year younger sister Hannah i Cook Illinois unmarried. Maybe or maybe not.

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&MSAV=0&msT=1&gss=angs-g&gsfn=sophie&gsln=johnson&mswpn__ftp=Cook+County%2c+Illinois%2c+USA&mswpn=730&mswpn_PInfo=7-|0|1652393|0|2|3247|16|0|730|0|0|&msbdy=1885&msfng0=peter&msfns0=johnson&msmng0=jenny&uidh=ezc&pcat=ROOT_CATEGORY&h=145546612&db=1940usfedcen&indiv=1&ml_rpos=2

It seems that Peter divorced Ovida Kaspara Kaspersen too or she moved away from him?

It is en interesting case

This may be the family that Sophie and Hannah came from at least there are two of those names in the home:

Caspara married a man named Haffner. Here is her death in 1941, maybe will help to locate Arthur Johnson if an obit can be found:
familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NQ9Z-XH6

Caspara married Charles Haffner, another Norwegian, sometime after 1900. In 1910, there is a child named Otto Haffner age 20 in Caspara's and Charles' household. Charles was living in Chicago in 1900 as a single man. It appears that Arthur may have been adopted by Caspara's second husband. Otto married but I haven't found any children of his.

This is a possible for Peter's daughter Alice, #129:
Source information: Oslo county, Grønland, Parish register (official) nr. 7 (1878-1888), Birth and baptism records 1879, page 47.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5790&idx_id=5790&uid=ny&idx_side=-52

This Peter is married, so don't know.

Alice Swanson was still married to Samuel in 1910 and living in Chicago, but appears to be divorced and living in the home of some cousins Emit T. & Julie Berg in Chicago in 1920.

It's getting confusing. Since we haven't seemed to generate any information on Jenny and Sofie as Johnson after the time of the divorce, we're looking at other possible names.

Otto Haffner's obit was published in the Morning Star (Rockford, Ill) on Thursday 25 Sept 1975 on pg 5, column 2:

"Otto J. Haffner
Harvard-- Otto J. Haffner, 85, 104 N. Washington Street, retired owner of a resort at Three Lakes, Wisc. died Wednesday in Harvard Hospital after a long illness.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services will be at 1:30 pm Monday in the Saunders and Hoffman Funeral Home with burial in Mount Auburn cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday at the funeral home."

So no help there.

I wonder if Peter's wife Caroline Sophie / Sophie Caroline died and that memorial is why the name Sophie was given to Peter's and Jenny's first child?

Here is Petter Olaf Johansen leaving in 1880 with wife (curiously called Pauline), son Jens and daughter Alice (you have to click through 1007-1010):
