I have Alexander's death certificate. Unfortunately, it has very little information. It does not even ask for names of the parents or spouse.
I have been remiss in following up on the marriage certificate that my contact in Boone County was supposed to search for. Today I have filled out the forms to request that through the state along with the death certificate of Alex and Betsy's daughter Emma. It may take a couple of months, but at least it should be handled.
The death certificate for son Oscar lists his mother's name as Betsy Runyan. The transcription of her marriage license lists her name as Betsy R. Johnson. When I posted this information previously, Jackie researched and reported:

I just quickly checked the farm search in the 1865 census but found none named Runyan, so this name may be an "Anglicization" of a Norwegian name either as it spells or sounds.
There are many farms which start as Run.., Rund... but it could also represent R*n... with *=any vowel including ø. Yan might be a representation of a common suffix in Norwegian like "øyen" / "øen" or the particular pronounciation of words like "Trondheim" or "Stenehjem" over here as "Trondjem" or "Stenejem" or the spelling of "ien" or "ion" over here.
I'm building quite a tree on Johan Bendik's family, thanks to Einar and others. But I have to agree that making a connection isn't looking promising.

No further adds to the ancestors of George L Johnson, I find no connection with this person and Betsy.
Another approach would be to see where Betsy or some variation is found in Bergen, Nord-Trondeag or Sør-Trondelag.
No one found with the name Bet* born in 1850 plus/minus 5 years in Nord-Trondelag
In Sør-Trondelgr there are two. Name, birth date, baptism date where baptised, father, mother.
Betsy Caspara Christian Philipsdatter 19 jan 1846 28 jun 1846 Domkirken, Trondheim, Sor Trondelag, Norway Christian Philip, Serine
Ingeborg Betty Helena Olesdatter 7 apr 1851 22 jun 1851 Vor Frue Kirke, Trondheim, Sor Trondelag, Norway Ole, Maren
I think that a search in these two counties is not getting very far, much better to look in Hordaland and/or Bergen. |

In Hordaland using Bet* Joh* with born 1850 plus/minus 2 finds 3 all in Bergen.
Betsy Catharine Johan Christiansdatter 9 aug 1845 14 sep 1845 Korskirken, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway Johan Christian, Karen
Betzy Georgine Mathilde Johan Fredrich Augustsdatter 12 jun 1846 5 jul 1846 Bergen, Bergen, Norway Johan Fredrich August, Cecilia Catharina
Betzy Syljekida Ivanna Johnsdatter 19 nov 1846 6 des 1846 (6 Dec 1846) Bergen, Bergen, Norway John, Christine Andrea
Using the above but subing Jon* finds two, looks like same family with two children of the same name but different birth years.
Betzye Cathrine Jonasdatter 7 okt 1847 (7 Oct 1847) 17 okt 1847 (17 Oct 1847) Bergen, Bergen, Norway Jonas, Bergitte Magrethe
Betzy Catharine Jonasdatter 2 jun 1853 10 jul 1853 Bergen, Bergen, Norway Jonas, Bergitte Margrethe
You will notice that none of them are born in 1850. You pobably also notice that all of the names like Betsy are found in a city, either Bergen or Trondheim. |

If you expand the search country wide and narrow the years to 1850 plus/minus 1 you find only two for Joh* and none for Jon*
Beta Olava Johansen 16 jan 1849 28 jan 1849 Norderhov,Buskerud,Norway Johan, Kirstie
Olga Betty Ole Johan Sundtsdatter 18 sep 1851 11 jan 1852 Strømsø, Buskerud, Norway Ole Johan Sundt, Susanne Christine

So starting with the name Bet* ie some shortened version of Betsy does not seem to be very successful. If you use Ber* and assume that she changed her name to from some variant of Ber* to Betsy you can find a lot more candidates. Here are the ones for Ber*, born 1850, in Hordaland, father named Joh*. Not a lot for Febuary. But here they are.
Theda Berntine Carl Johansdatter 17 des 1850 (17 Dec 1850) 10 jan 1851 Korskirken, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway Carl Johan, Theda
Berthe Marie Hans Johansdatter 4 jan 1850 27 jan 1850 Korskirken, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway Hans Johan, Anne Martine
Berthe Johannesdatter 1850 1850 Manger, Hordaland, Norway Johannes, Marthe
Karine Bertine Johannesdatter 1850 1850 Manger, Hordaland, Norway Johannes, Ingeborg
Berte Karine Johansen 8 mar 1850 31 mar 1850 , Os, Hordaland, Norway John, Borbro
Berthe Christine Johansen 17 jan 1850 18 feb 1850 , Finnas, Hordaland, Norway Johannes, Britha
Catrine Berntine Johnsdatter 20 aug 1850 22 sep 1850 Bergen, Bergen, Norway John, Anna Karine
Mathilde Bergitte Ole Johannesdatter 5 sep 1850 20 okt 1850 (20 Oct 1850) Bergen, Bergen, Norway Ole Johannes, Aase
Cathrine Berentine Johansdatter 22 sep 1850 Bergen, Bergen, Norway Johan, Anne Karine
Bergithe Elling Johansdatter 7 jul 1850 Nykirken, Bergen, Bergen, Norway Elling Johan, Jette Marie
Berthe Johannesdatter [Berthe Johannesen] 22 sep 1850 Manger, Hordaland, Norway Johannes, Marthe
Karine Bertine Johannesdatter 17 mar 1850 Manger, Hordaland, Norway Johannes, Ingeborg
Mathilde Bergitte Ole Johannesdatter 20 okt 1850 (20 Oct 1850) Domkirken, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway Ole Johannes, Aase

An approach you might try that gives much the same results as I can obtain using the search engine of Ancestry.com is the "The Norwegian Historical Data CentreFrontpageAdvanced search in the censuses"
Google NHDC and look for "NHDC - Searching the 1865, 1875, 1900 and 1910 .."
Or click here
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/folketellinger_e.aspx
Go to that site. The site is in both English and Norwegian so it should be easy for you to use. Go to the Search Box up in the right hand corner and click on "Advanced Search in the censuses" You should be able to start using only the first or the first and second boxes. Click on the pull down menu ie it will say None and click on First Name, type in Bet* (use the * symbol to shorten the search word. Next do the same for the second box but use Surname, try Jo* The go to the Birth Year box and type a range, if you use a very narrow range for the above you will not find any candidates so try 1845 to 1855. Click on the 1865 Box You can also narrow it to the city ie Bergen or Oslo, or one of the counties (fylke) such as Hordaland. You can also narrow it to only females Click Search
And then look at the candidates, if one interests you, clck on the person and look at that census data.
I am afraid that with a narrow search for a Betsy Johnson born in 1850 you will be disappointed in how few if any candidates there are. So you are going to have to use a broader search and hope you stumble across a likely candidate. If you find one post it here an we will try and help you track the person.

Well I went back to your old post to see if we missed some things.Correct me if I am wrong but, I do not think we ever found Betsy in the 1925 Iowa Census.
If she died in 1934 in Swan Lake as shown below, she should be in there.
Name: Betsy Bell Anderson Gender: Female Marital Status: Widowed Race: White Age: 84 Birth Date: 1850 Death Date: 14 Dec 1934 Death Place: Swan Lake FHL Film Number: 1401841
Here is her daughter and son-in-law in the 1925 Iowa State Census
Ida C Anderson in the Iowa, State Census Collection, 1836-1925 Name: Ida C Anderson Age: 44 Birth Year: abt 1881 Birth Place: Iowa Residence Date: 1 Jan 1925 Residence Place: Swan Lake, Pocahontas, Iowa, USA Race: White Gender: Female Relation to Head: Wife Marital Status: Married Spouse: C F Anderson Father: Alec Anderson Father Birth Place: Sweden Mother Birth Place: Norway Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age C F Anderson 52 Ida C Anderson 44 Clarence Anderson 20 Beda Anderson 18 Alice Anderson 14 Donald Anderson 5

Rats!
Amazing enough for a name not found much if at all in Norway there were four Betsy Johnson ladies born in Norway and living in Northwood, Worth County, Iowa in the 1870 Census.
Betsy Johnson age 51 also in the same household a Betsy Johnson age 13 Betsy Johnson age 19 living in the Boyd household Betsy Johnson age 11 ? hard to read could be 18 living in the Wardell household
In fact in Iowa alone there are 18 Betsy Johnsons born in Norway in the 1870 Census. |

...search for Betsy Johnson (b. 28 Feb 1850 in Bergen, we think)....one bit of new information found in a letter written by my grandmother about the family history. She writes about Betsy, “[her] parents were married in Norway and two children were born to them in Norway – one son and a daughter, Betsy."
In a way it sounds like grandmother is saying that other children were born in the US (though that's not a definite implication). If the parents had only two children total, wouldn't she say simply "two children were born to them."
If Betsy immigrated with her parents, her father could be somebody Johnsen (Johansen, Johannessen, etc) and Betsy could emigrate under her patronymic rather than as Johnson. Another unknown is the name Betsy, which could be Betsy/Betzy etc but could also be Berte, Birte, Beate, Elisabet, etc. As Anton points out, there are more Betsys in Iowa than in Norway - because "Betsy" is often a nickname for some other name. And Betsy (and variations) could be a middle name. She could appear in 1865 census as Anna Elisabeth Olsdatter! All of which has been discussed. Where does the name Bell come from? A place name? A nickname? The surest fact seems to be the birth date. Another thought, grandmother mentions a brother for Betsy. Could he be in Worth county, Iowa, in 1870? I think that was at least partly explored previously.... |

Interesting thought about the son. I have looked at this family several times, because of the name, and the son, born in Norway. Daughter named Betsy was born in Wisconsin. Problem might be they would have had to come to the US before 1857 when the daughter was born. They are no other Johnsons in Northwood, Worth Coutny old enough to be the parents of a Betsy Johnson born in 1850. There are other Johnsons in Worth County old enough just not in Northwood.
1870 United States Federal Census Name: Betsy Johnson Age in 1870: 51 Birth Year: abt 1819 Birthplace: Norway Home in 1870: Northwood, Worth, Iowa Race: White Gender: Female Post Office: Northwood Value of real estate: View image Household Members: Name Age Ole Johnson 25 Betsy Johnson 51 Betsy Johnson 13

There are at least 6 age 40 and up Norway born Johnson heads of household in Worth county any of whom could be parents of someone born in 1850. See page 5 of the original topic. |

I noticed that Betsy's daughter named her daughter Beda. From the 1910 Census where Betsy Johnson Anderson was living with the family. Maybe the first son Clarence was named after the husbands father and the first daughter was named after Betsy? Although when I looked deeper into it, it seems that most people with the name Beda were born in Sweden, So maybe the husband named the first girl after someone in his family.
Name: Beda P Anderson Age in 1910: 3 Birth Year: abt 1907 Birthplace: Iowa Home in 1910: Marshall, Pocahontas, Iowa Race: White Gender: Female Relation to Head of House: Daughter (Child) Marital Status: Single Father's name: Charley F Anderson Father's Birthplace: Sweden Mother's name: Ida C Anderson Mother's Birthplace: Iowa |

Is Christin a boy or girl? We wouldn't have looked at those folks because the fact they're in US in 1856 wouldn't match the narrative that Betsy came to US as a teenager. |
